After the previous post about screen sizes I wondered where the size screen I used fitted into the graph.
I run a fairly large ‘old style’ 4×3 screen, rather than the newer wide screens that are more popular these days.
The resolution that my screen is set to is 1600×1200.
Technically, as there are 2 of them I have a desktop that is 3200×1200.
But that’s a different story. If you are interested, this link will take you to an image displaying the full desktop area. The small window on the right is 1024×768 in size.
You may also notice some of the new features that are being trialed on the site currently.

So back to the Google Analytics results for screen sizes.
Maximize the list out to show all the results. From the 44 different screen sizes that have visited this site over the last month, the screen size I use is 22nd, right in the middle.

As I have excluded my IP address from being included in this sites statistics, so that I don’t add extra ‘hits’ to things, I was also able to see that there were 3 others running this screen resolution.
Isn’t Google Analytics useful for useless information like this, after you have used it for more important things like I did last time.

Most of the time, I don’t actually use the browser on a full screen, it is a bit wide for everyday use.
Instead, most of the time I have it set to 3/4 the width of the screen. There are loads of reasons for this.
Firstly, I have a little program that makes it easy to set up at that size, so it’s quite convenient.
Secondly, as the Google Analytics shows, about that width is what most people are using, so it makes sense to have it set to a size that most people use. Because my screen is taller than most wide screens though, it means I don’t have to scroll as much to see things.
Thirdly, it means I can have easy access to the other things on the desktop under the browser window. Quite often I find myself switching between 2 browser windows set at different sizes, and having them close together makes it easier to see how things are progressing. Also my email program is usually lurking in the background there somewhere. (the second screen usually has folders open on it)
Also, having the browser only open some of the way, means, that when I want to, I can open it all the way and have a much wider view of something I am looking at.

If you are interested in seeing where your screen fits in, I have included the list for you.

Monitor SizesI had to break it into 2 parts, as it didn’t fit on one screen.
When you open the image, if it is still to small to read clearly, there might be a little grey box in the top right corner of the image. Clicking that, should open the image to full size, where you can scroll around it.
If that box is not there, or you have done that, and it is still to small, try moving closer, or getting a larger monitor(or perhaps more monitors 😯 )

multi monitorsHaving read all that again, I realize that there is a lot of talking about what my screens do, and not much talking about how that effects you.
Sorry again to those that find this yet again another boring post.

If you didn’t find this post totally boring, or want to know more about something I have mentioned, feel free to leave a comment. 😀
